Network Engineer - 12 Month Contract

We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to support the design, implementation, and operation of large-scale IP networks within the telecommunications domain. This role will suit a hands-on engineer with strong technical expertise across routing, switching, security, and data centre networking technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Network Design & Implementation
- Plan, design, and implement IP-based telecom networks
- Redesign and optimise network flows based on evolving project requirements
Device Configuration & Management
- Configure and manage routers, switches, firewalls, and related network devices
Network Security
- Implement and maintain security policies and controls
- Work with firewalls, IDS/IPS, and network access control systems
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Diagnose and resolve complex network issues
- Ensure high availability, stability, and performance of network services
Documentation & Standards
- Maintain clear documentation of configurations, procedures, and policies
- Ensure compliance with industry and organisational standards
Collaboration
- Work closely with cross-functional IT and engineering teams
- Engage with stakeholders to deliver network solutions aligned with business needs
Specific Technical Tasks
- IP address auditing, allocation, and lifecycle management
- Monitoring network performance and resolving bottlenecks
- Performing network upgrades, patching, and preventative maintenance
- Implementing infrastructure security controls to safeguard systems and data
Required Skills & Experience
Qualifications & Certifications
- Degree or tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Telecommunications, Engineering, or related field
- Industry certifications highly regarded (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE or equivalent)
Technical Expertise
- Strong knowledge of IP networking and routing protocols (OSPF, BGP)
- Experience designing telecom or service provider network architectures
- Hands-on experience with IP-based mobile core networks
- Data centre networking knowledge including ACI and EVPN-VXLAN
- Firewall and security policy design experience - ideally with Fortinet, F5, or Check Point technologies
Other Key Skills
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving ability
- Solid understanding of network security principles
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in collaborative environments
Ideal Background
Experience working with major telecommunications providers (such as mobile carriers, broadband networks, or large-scale service providers) will be highly regarded.
